Why College Factual Exists

Students waste a lot of time in their high school and college years making bad decisions about their education. Only 43% of students actually graduate in the college where they start As many as one third (if not more) students end up transferring. Of those who transfer about 40% lose all of their previous credits! About 75% of students change majors, which adds to their time in college as well as their likelihood of transferring.

All of this confusion often leaves parents and students questioning the value of a college degree, and it's starting to have an effect on enrollment. College enrollment across the country has been down since 2011. During their times of peak enrollment many schools took on a lot of debt to grow their facilities, and now are forced to raise their prices which only exacerbates the problems of student debt, loan defaults, drop outs and declining enrollment.

We think there is an easy solution to both students who wish to avoid mountains of debt, and for colleges who want to attract more high-quality students. If we can get students to choose a major and a college that's a good fit for them to begin with they'll be more likely to graduate on time, less likely to change majors, transfer colleges, drop out, or take on excessive debt. This is good for students and good for colleges.

What We Do

More than just another ranking site, we provide a decision engine to help students discover their best major, college and future career

We collect data from a variety of sources and present it in interesting and invaluable ways. Our tools such as Majors Matcher and College Match help students get started in their college search quickly. Many students and parents complain of being overwhelmed with information. We want to make it clear to them how to start their college search.

Part of the information we provide to families include rankings of multiple categories that are able to be customized and filtered based on student needs. We rank colleges by overall best quality, best for the money, best for specific majors or sports programs, diversity, veterans, and more. We know there are many different quality options when it comes to receiving a quality education, and we want to draw attention to the many schools that are doing things right when it comes to educating their students.

The end goal is to match a student to the best major, college and future career for them. We envision a higher education marketplace, where students can interact with colleges and get all the information they need to make a good decision. Likewise colleges could have more immediate access to students that have expressed interest in their institutions. This would benefit both students and colleges by making it easier for schools to find the students that will thrive on their campus.
