There is a great deal of valuable data reported by schools using the common format established via the Common Data Set Initiative. We very much support and share this initiatives goal to "improve the quality and accuracy of information provided to all involved in a student's transition into higher education, as well as to reduce the reporting burden on data providers."
Schools go through the effort of collecting and reporting this data, but that data is ultimately only distributed to a limited number of publishers. We intend to further maximize a schools effort by collecting this data, much of which is already openly published on school's websites, and allowing truly open distribution of it to all publishers.
We are able to gather data from the CDS files posted by many colleges on their websites. However, many schools do not post this data, and so we ask for representatives of each school to become contributors to provide the data when it is not provided on their website. Furthermore, we invite contributors from all schools to review the data that has been collected from files posted on their website to double check its accuracy.
